Stretching makes you stronger!

Not only that, it is one of the best ways to ward off injury. I feel it is some of the most beneficial of any “preventive medicines” you can utilize. Staying limber allows you to be human, to make mistakes from time to time and to come out somewhat, if not completely, unscathed. This relates to everyday life as well as competitive sport training. There have been a few times when I slipped on something or held on to something too long and knew being limber helped protect me. I was snow skiing once and being a Florida native, you can imagine, I’m no Jean Claude Kelly! Anyway, I’m certain if I hadn’t been limber, the inadvertent split I performed on my skies would have sidelined me.

When I hear of injuries from clients, I find about seventy percent of them do not stretch regularly. Spend a few minutes before and after your training stretching. If you can get into the habit, you’ll notice a difference in flexibility within weeks. Plus, you’ll notice your training will become smoother. Those creaks and squeaks you used to hear before stretching will diminish or go away completely. You’ll feel stronger in all areas because through stretching, you prepare your muscles and joints for the stress of exercise.

If you’d like a ten-minute stretching routine that has kept me limber, go to Sultan’s Stretch.
